What You Need To Know:

Thinking about buying a foreign made motorcycle?  Are you ready to pull the plug and buy?  Well, there are some things you should consider first and know before doing so.

Are there any requirements to importing a motorcycle from a foreign country?  You betcha – You must first ensure that this motorcycle conforms to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) rules, regulations and guidelines.    There are some pretty strict guidelines that it must conform to in order to be legally registered, used and/or sold in the United States.  Oh yea, and you must be in compliance to clear Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP) as well!

If it is not in compliance once it arrives in the US, then it must be exported or destroyed.

The DOT enforces safety standards for vehicles and its parts.  If it’s not in compliance too, it will be exported or destroyed.

While you’re at it, have you completed a thorough background check on the vehicle?  How do you really know that odometer hasn’t been rolled back?  Or has it been involved in a wreck?  The best way to see all of the pertinent information is to run a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) check.   The fine folks over at CycleVin.com makes this process extremely easy – Click here to check your vehicle.
