Daytona Helmets International (Daytona) is recalling certain Skull Cap D1, D3 and D6 Helmets in sizes 3XS through 4XL. These helmets may not adequately protect the wearer in the event of a head impact during a motorcycle crash. As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.” These helmets were sold through Walmart, Amazon and several other retailers.

CONSEQUENCE:

In the event of a crash, the helmet may not adequately protect the wearer, increasing their risk of injury.

REMEDY:

Daytona will notify owners, and dealers will replace the helmets, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 1, 2017. Owners may contact Daytona customer service at 1-800-452-5745.

NOTES:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
