On Sunday, Police arrested two burglars who they said were seen breaking into a Honda motorcycle and off-road vehicle dealership before leading police on a pursuit.
The Melbourne Police Department said officers were called to Honda of Melbourne at 1240 S. Harbor City Blvd. after two men were reported seen using a sledgehammer to try to knock out a wall to the dealership.
“Crime is probably not a a good career path for these guys. They take a sledgehammer to beat a side of a building,” said Honda of Melbourne owner AJ Hiers. “They’re kind of bumbling idiots,” he added, telling a local new channel on Monday the men are likely to be the “dumbest criminals” he’s ever seen.
Police said the two suspects, later identified as Lamarcus Roberts Anderson, 43, and Laress Leon Nelson, 24, were seen getting into a stolen box truck and attempting to pull out of the parking lot when officers tried to stop them. However, the men refused to stop, and led police on a slow-speed pursuit until they stopped in the area of Morningside Drive and Carolin Street. Police said Anderson and Nelson then ran on foot.
The suspects were eventually apprehended. Police said the vehicle driven by the men was found to have been stolen from Buddy’s furniture store in West Melbourne.
Hiers says Anderson and Nelson never had a chance at breaking through the building’s thick metal insulation.
“We are very thankful that they are very unintelligent people,” he said.
Anderson and Nelson were arrested and are charged with burglary, grand theft, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest without violence.
